The biggest compliment as a photographer is being invited back into my clients lives to document their big moments. An even bigger compliment is when I hear them say, “I felt so comfortable with you during my boudoir shoot, I couldn’t imagine anyone else taking my maternity photos.” I’ve been lucky enough to hear that over and over so naturally, I started to add maternity into my offerings. I’m so glad I did because it’s become something that brings me so much joy. So here’s what you can expect from a KB Boudoir Maternity experience.
Doing maternity photos with a boudoir photographer
Boudoir is all about curves, shapes, and the natural beauty of your body at every stage in life. Pregnancy = the best curves. So, approaching maternity from a boudoir perspective comes naturally to me. During your session, I’ll celebrate you and the way your body is changing and demonstrate poses that feel complimentary.
What’s my style?
I approach maternity similarly to how I approach boudoir. I am on a mission to make you look just as good if not better. That means combining wardrobe selection, posing, lighting, angles and technical aspects of photography to make you look and feel as beautiful as you are. My style is timeless, sophisticated, sexy and authentic. You’ll have three looks that can range from a beautiful dress to simple lingerie to nothing at all. Each look is based on your comfort zone and the overall inspiration for the session. We’ll switch it up with backdrops, lighting and different sets for an album that feels special with each turn of the page.
Can I bring my partner/kids?
I’ve always felt drawn to working one on one with women. I want YOU to be the main focus of this session so I ask that you leave partners, kids, and everyone else at home. We’ll take things slow with hair and makeup in the morning, I’ll walk you through poses and help you to look and feel your best.
Do I get to see my photos the same day?
Just like your boudoir experience, we’ll take a little break after your shoot. You can go grab some lunch or coffee in downtown Westwood while I soft edit your photos. About an hour later, you’ll come back to choose your favorites and design your album.
Do I have to wear lingerie?
Absolutely not! When it comes to your photo experience, I encourage you to wear whatever you feel comfortable in and get creative. For some, that means cozy sweaters, leisure wear or their favorite pair of denim. For others, it means nothing at all. For most, it’s somewhere in the middle. You’ll have an opportunity for three different looks and I love to see some variety. For the first, maybe a gorgeous form fitting dress that shows off the bump. For the second, a cozy sweater and some boy shorts and for the third, a lingerie or nude look. This is just an example but we’ll customize your experience to fit what works best for you!
What if I’m not feeling my best?
I totally get this and rest assured you’re not alone. So many women come to me not feeling their best physically and/or mentally. Pregnancy can bring up lots of emotions related to body image. For some women, they feel super sexy. For others, they struggle to recognize their own bodies and mentally have trouble keeping up with the changes. If you’re reading this, I want you to know that your body is GOOD and DESERVES to be documented at every stage of your life. And it especially deserves to be documented and celebrated during your pregnancy.
So do it uncertain.
Do it scared.
Do it insecure.
Show up and I’ll take care of the rest.
